Suggested Recomindation Letter

To Whom It May Concern:

Jonathan Lo is an intelligent, motivated, and dedicated student who strives to achieve his full potential. His commitment to excellence may be inferred from the quantity and quality of the classes he took during his time at Lowell. Accepted into the honors track in both English and mathematics as a freshman, Jonathan continued to take honor courses in these two subjects in his sophomore and junior years, advancing to AP English in his junior year and to AP Calculus in his senior year. In addition to his merit in these two vital subjects, Jonathan also excelled in science (entering Chemistry Honors as a sophomore, AP Chemistry as a junior, and AP Physics as a senior), computer science (accepted into Computer Programming 2 without it’s perquisite courses his junior year, and enrolling the AP Computer Science his senior year), and social studies (entering AP European History as a sophomore, AP United States History as a junior, and AP Economics, AP United States Government, and AP Comparative Government as a senior). His high scores in all of his classes—particularly considering the tremendous performance that teachers, coupled with the unparalleled competition among the students, at Lowell High School expect—are nothing short of incredible.

Despite his academic achievements, it would be completely incorrect to write off this student as another bookworm. Jonathan displays characteristics of a true ‘Renaissance man’: he was a member of Lowell’s varsity fencing team, was a member of Lowell’s Academic Decathlon team, is a lifetime member of the California Scholarship Federation, and served in Lowell’s Forensics’ Society’s Congress. He belonged to the Japanese Anime Club, the Math Club, and the Computer Science Club. He has served the school community as an enrolled Library T.A., and as a volunteer AP European History T.A. and Library T.A.

In conclusion, Jonathan Lo is an outstanding student of awesome talent and energy. He has taken full advantage of the resources Lowell has to offer, often joining more classes than the seven courses per semester the San Francisco Unified School District sets at the maximum for high school students. Notwithstanding his obvious ability, Jonathan is a kind, polite, and humble student, who works well with students of all backgrounds and abilities. He displays a maturity comparable to most adults, a trait that is increasingly absent in each new year of students. His extensive involvement in academics and extracurricular activities will make him a valuable addition to any college or university he will attend, and there is no reason for this teacher to expect anything less than the same brilliance that Mr. Lo has displayed in all his years at Lowell.

Sincerely,
